Happy Friday! Pour the double-double, because Canada just approved a mining project fast for once, three energy names all beat Q2 in the same 48 hours, and gold and silver spent the morning giving back an overnight spike.
Canada Nickel became the first mining project ever approved under the country's amended Impact Assessment Act, a permitting story with implications for every junior watching Ottawa's timelines.
Meanwhile, the energy patch posted a clean sweep: Baytex, TC Energy, and Vermilion all beat, raised, and bought back in the same week oil ripped higher on fresh Mideast strikes.
Let's get into it.
📊 Commodity Ape Quick Stats
🥇 Gold (spot): $4,040/oz 📉
🥈 Silver (spot): $57.95/oz 📉
🔌 Copper: $6.49/lb 📈
☢️ Uranium (U₃O₈ spot): $85.84/lb ➡️
🛢️ WTI Crude: $85.76/bbl 📈
🔥 Natural Gas (Henry Hub): $2.80/MMBtu 📉
🍁 TSX-V Composite: 875.50 📈
💵 U.S. Dollar (DXY): 100.3 📈
Gold and silver both punched to overnight highs above $4,100 and $59 on renewed Mideast strikes, then gave most of it back once Washington paused further airstrikes.
Oil is the mirror image: WTI is up roughly 20% for the month on the same conflict.
TSX-V is Thursday's confirmed close, still climbing into the open. Uranium and Henry Hub are the most recent confirmed prints available and haven't moved since our last read: treat both as directional until a fresher tick lands.
⛏️ The Motherlode: Canada Nickel Just Became Ottawa's Guinea Pig, and It Worked
What happened. Canada Nickel Company ($CNIKF ( ▲ 3.11% )) received a positive federal Decision Statement for its Crawford Nickel Project on July 31, the first mining project ever approved under Canada's amended Impact Assessment Act.
The project moved through the federal Major Projects Office and Ontario's new "One Project, One Process" framework alongside it.
Why it happened. Ottawa has spent years promising faster permitting for critical minerals projects, and Crawford was the test case.
CEO Mark Selby says the federal permit itself took four years, and the whole path from the fifth discovery drill hole through feasibility to today's approval took under seven, fast by the standard of a mine this size.
What it means for your position. Crawford is shaping up to be the Western World's largest nickel sulphide operation and North America's only primary chromium source, backed by Agnico Eagle, Samsung SDI, and Anglo American.
But the bigger read-through is for every other project sitting in Ottawa's queue: gold, copper, critical minerals alike.
If the new process really does compress a decade-plus slog into single digits, that's a re-rating catalyst for permitting risk across the whole junior sector, not just one nickel name.
⚙️ Drill Bit Tech & Trends: An AI Targeting Model Just Found Its Third Blind Vein in a Row
Independence Gold (TSXV: IGO, OTCQB: IEGCF) hit its third straight blind vein discovery at the 3Ts Gold and Silver Project in BC. Hole 3TS-26-29 cut 11.40 metres of 2.80 g/t gold and 12.54 g/t silver in the new Dixie Vein, including a punchy 1.99 metres at 6.94 g/t gold, plus a distinct lead-zinc zone underneath it.
