Happy Tuesday!

Pour the double-double, because Canada just signed its biggest corporate merger ever, and a Yukon driller ran a six-ounce-per-tonne gold interval before most of us finished our first coffee.

Emera is swallowing Canadian Utilities and ATCO into a $72 billion infrastructure powerhouse, Prospector Metals keeps finding the TESS Zone's best gold yet in the Yukon, and Lockheed Martin just handed a junior geophysics shop seven years of exclusivity on its gravity-mapping tech.

Gold, silver, copper and natural gas are all catching a bid while WTI eases back on cooling Middle East supply fears. Grab the double-double, there's a lot to get through.

⚡ TL;DR

  • Prospector Metals drilled 41.34 g/t gold over 7.81m at its TESS Zone in the Yukon, including a blistering 194.23 g/t over 1.03m, the richest single interval the project has logged yet.

  • Emera agreed to acquire Canadian Utilities and ATCO in a $14.3 billion all-stock deal, creating a $72 billion utility and energy-infrastructure combination, the biggest corporate merger in Canadian history.

  • Watch Prospector's 84 still-pending assays, Canterra's grade math at Buchans, and whether Altura's helium financing actually closes this time.

⛏️ The Motherlode: Prospector Metals' TESS Zone Just Got Its Richest Hole Yet

What happened. $PMCOF ( ▲ 6.53% ) (Prospector Metals Corp, TSXV: PPP) released new assays from the TESS Zone at its ML Project in Yukon. Hole ML26-56 returned 41.34 g/t gold over 7.81 metres, including 130.77 g/t over 2.25 metres, including a blistering 194.23 g/t gold over 1.03 metres, north of six ounces of gold in a single tonne of rock.

Why it happened. TESS Zone has absorbed 54 of the 100 holes (10,823 metres) drilled this field season, part of a systematic push to map high-grade mineralization across 400 metres of strike. Only 16 of those 100 holes have assays back; the other 84 are still in the lab.

What it means for your position. This is now the richest single interval Prospector has logged at TESS, and it landed with the bulk of the season's holes still pending. CEO Rob Carpenter is already framing the structural setting as resembling gold systems more typical of metamorphic terranes, the kind of language that tends to show up right before a step-out program gets bigger, not smaller. With 84 holes still to report, there's a lot more TESS left to tell.

Every junior claims a tech edge. This week, one of them actually locked a competitor out of the hardware.

  • What's in it: $MTEK.TSX ( ▲ 0.69% ) (Metatek Group) secured a deal with Lockheed Martin to manufacture a new Enhanced Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometry (eFTG) instrument, the airborne tool that maps what's underground by reading tiny shifts in Earth's gravity field, used across both mineral and oil and gas exploration. The agreement grants Metatek seven years of global exclusivity on new eFTG systems, extendable to nine with an option on a further unit at preferential pricing.

  • The trend: Metatek already runs two eFTG units in the field with a third on order. Locking competitors out of buying new copies of the same survey tech for the better part of a decade is a moat few junior service shops ever get to build.

  • The skeptic's footnote: the new instrument takes roughly three years to manufacture, so most of the commercial payoff lands past 2029. Metatek shares moved all of 0.3% on the news, which is the market telling you it read this as a structural advantage, not a near-term catalyst.

So what. Worth tracking for whoever needs an eFTG survey flown sometime in the next seven years and finds there's only one phone number left to call.

🪨 The Tailings: Canterra Finds 55% More Copper-Zinc, and 14% Less Grade

$CTMCF ( ▲ 2.85% ) (Canterra Minerals, TSXV: CTM) updated the resource at its Lundberg deposit on the Buchans project in Newfoundland. Indicated tonnage jumped 55% to 26.08 million tonnes, now holding 226,200 tonnes of copper-equivalent metal (94.8 kt copper, 341.6 kt zinc, 146.2 kt lead, 4.21 million ounces silver, 51,400 ounces gold). The catch: grades slipped across the board, copper from 0.42% to 0.36%, zinc from 1.53% to 1.31%, lead from 0.64% to 0.56%, roughly a 13 to 14% decline each, the predictable result of chasing total contained metal at today's much higher prices instead of yesterday's grade cutoffs.

So what. More ounces, thinner rock. A 55% bigger resource is a real headline, but grade is what pays for mining the thing, and Canterra just told you which one it optimized for.

🛢️ The Gusher: Emera Just Signed Up for the Biggest Deal in Canadian Corporate History

What happened. $EMA.TSX ( ▼ 2.91% ) (Emera) agreed to acquire $CU.TSX ( ▼ 1.95% ) (Canadian Utilities) for roughly $14.3 billion in an all-stock deal, with $ACO.X.TSX ( ▲ 9.22% ) (ATCO) folding into the same transaction and spinning its industrial-services arm (housing, defence, ports) into a new standalone company, New ATCO.

The combined Emera-Canadian Utilities entity carries an enterprise value of roughly $72 billion and a $45 billion rate base, the biggest corporate combination in Canadian history.

Why it happened. Roughly 80% of the combined company's earnings come from regulated utilities in Florida and Alberta, two of the fastest-growing power markets on the continent, and management is betting scale is what it takes to fund a $32 billion capital plan through 2030 as AI and data-centre demand push US power use toward fresh record highs.

What it means for your position. Existing Emera shareholders end up owning about 60% of the combined company, former ATCO and Canadian Utilities holders the other 40%, with the deal not expected to close until Q3 or Q4 2027 pending shareholder, court and regulatory approval. For the patch, it's a reminder that the grid feeding Alberta's oilfields, and the data centres chewing through natural gas demand, just got a much bigger, better-capitalized owner.

🚧 The Pipeline: Canada Adds Eight More Rigs in a Single Week

Baker Hughes' latest weekly count shows Canada added eight rigs (four oil, four gas) for the week ending October 2, pushing the national total to 216 (149 oil, 66 gas, one miscellaneous), up 26 rigs from this time last year.

The skeptic's footnote: rig counts are noisy week to week, and one eight-rig add doesn't erase how choppy the back half of the year has been.

So what. $PD.TSX ( ▼ 4.19% ) (Precision Drilling), Canada's largest driller, is the name most directly levered to that kind of build. More iron going into the ground ahead of winter drilling season is exactly the sort of quiet signal that shows up in Q4 service revenue before it shows up in any headline.

🔥 The Flare Stack: Altura's Helium Money Is Still Stuck in Customs

Altura Energy (TSXV: ALTU) pushed back the closing deadline on its $3 million private placement, backed by a Southeast Asian conglomerate taking a 19.95% stake, to October 30. The company says the investor's government and banking approvals are in their final stages, the same language it used at the last closing deadline.

So what. The money is earmarked for Altura's Holbrook Basin helium project in Arizona, and the terms haven't budged, just the calendar. A strategic investor that keeps needing more time to clear its own government isn't necessarily a red flag, but after two extensions it isn't a green light either.

📈 Stat of the Day

The biggest number of the day wasn't a drill hole. It was a merger.

Stat card: seventy-two billion dollars, the biggest corporate merger in Canadian history

Seventy-two billion dollars: the biggest corporate merger in Canadian history, signed on a Tuesday.
