Happy Wednesday! Pour the double-double: Washington, Tehran and Muscat are inching toward a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and the tape is throwing a party about it.
Gold and silver both ripped higher, oil gave back another leg, and a Timmins drill hole came back running grades that would make a bullion bar blush.
On the mining side: Discovery Mining's Dome project delivered a headline intercept nudging bullion purity, a brand new porphyry target woke up in the Golden Triangle, and Compass Gold beat the rainy season to wrap a 42-hole program in Mali.
On the energy side: Suncor posted an all-time cash flow record and opened the buyback taps wider, an AKITA rig quietly drilled the deepest well in Canadian history, and a small cap oilfield services name rebranded itself into the power business overnight.
📊 Commodity Ape Quick Stats
🥇 Gold (spot): $4,183/oz 📈
🥈 Silver (spot): $61.72/oz 📈
🔌 Copper: $6.72/lb 📈
☢️ Uranium (U₃O₈ spot): $86.50/lb 📉
🛢️ WTI Crude: $75.20/bbl 📉
🔥 Natural Gas (Henry Hub): $2.67/MMBtu 📉
🍁 TSX-V Composite: 898.89 📈
💵 U.S. Dollar (DXY): 99.69 📉
Today's whole tape traces back to one storyline: growing optimism that the US, Iran and Oman are close to an interim deal on Hormuz shipping, which pulled oil's risk premium down while gold and silver both firmed on the softer dollar and lower inflation read.
Copper and the TSX-V rode the same risk-on wave.
Uranium is the usual weekly print, essentially flat.
⛏️ The Motherlode: A Timmins Drill Hole Just Out-Graded a Gold Bar
What happened: Discovery Mining ($DSV.TSX ( ▲ 4.19% )) reported assays from 55 holes (17,845.5 m) across its Dome, TVZ and Owl Creek growth projects in the Timmins gold camp, and the headline number is a monster: a Dome hole intersected 278.48 g/t gold over 1.1 metres, including a jaw-dropping 951.0 g/t over 0.3 metres.
Away from that one spectacular intercept, the rest of the program pulled its weight too: 9.09 g/t over 17.3 m at Dome, up to 5.65 g/t over 30.5 m at TVZ, and 19.35 g/t over 5.4 m at Owl Creek.
Why it happened: Dome already carries an 11.0 million-ounce Inferred resource, and CEO Tony Makuch wants updated resource estimates at Dome and TVZ before year-end, so the program is infilling and stepping out around the existing pit shell and underground zones rather than chasing something brand new.
The company also recently picked up the Kidd Metallurgical Site next door, which it plans to convert into a new processing hub for Dome, Owl Creek and TVZ material.
What it means for your position: This isn't a moose pasture story: Discovery is a large, funded gold producer stitching its Porcupine Complex into what management pegs as an extra 250,000 to 500,000 ounces a year.
When a well-capitalized senior keeps hitting bonanza grade in its own backyard, the exploration upside compounds without the financing risk that sinks most juniors.
⚙️ Drill Bit Tech: A Glacier Retreats, and a Brand-New Porphyry Target Gets Its First Hole
Oreterra Metals (TSXV: OTMC) just spudded the first-ever hole at Trek South, a copper-gold porphyry prospect in BC's Golden Triangle sitting right next door to Teck and Newmont's Galore Creek project.
The target only exists because the glacier sitting on top of it has retreated roughly 200 metres over the last 15 years, exposing porphyry-style alteration and copper-gold boulder trains nobody had a chance to drill before.
What's in it: the program is built around the UBC MDRU porphyry model, layering a kilometre-long IP chargeability anomaly (up to 40 mV/v) on top of a coincident magnetic high, essentially an X-ray of where the metal-bearing sulphides should sit below surface.
The trend: a historic grab sample from the boulder train assayed 2.86% copper, 8.85 g/t gold and 46.5 g/t silver, and eight angled holes are planned for Phase 1 (about 5,000 metres), with a second rig joining in roughly a week.
The skeptic's footnote: Oreterra itself flags that grab samples are selective and not necessarily representative of what a drill will find, and this prospect has never been tested by the bit before today.
So what. A glacier melting back to reveal a never-drilled porphyry target next to a major Newmont-Teck project is exactly the kind of district-scale optionality speculators watch the Golden Triangle for.
