Happy Monday!
Pour the double-double: Trump called off an Iran strike overnight, oil cratered 5% before lunch, and gold and silver both caught the bounce that oil dropped.
Meanwhile, a mid-tier gold producer just swallowed a widely-held junior to build a tier-one mine in Guyana, a Nevada critical-minerals name pivoted from lab to construction on battery recycling, and good rock keeps showing up two sections over in Arizona.
Plus: Enbridge grew its backlog to $41 billion without breaking a sweat, Imperial Oil beat on profit but missed on the refining side, and Athabasca Oil kept its 100%-of-free-cash-flow promise to shareholders even through a turnaround quarter.
📊 Commodity Ape Quick Stats
🥇 Gold (spot): $4,060/oz 📈
🥈 Silver (spot): $58.60/oz 📈
🔌 Copper: $6.49/lb 📈
☢️ Uranium (U₃O₈ spot): $86.60/lb 📈
🛢️ WTI Crude: $80.50/bbl 📉
🔥 Natural Gas (Henry Hub): $2.76/MMBtu 📉
🍁 TSX-V Composite: 905.98 📈
💵 U.S. Dollar (DXY): 99.72 📉
The whole tape today traces back to one phone call: Trump held off a planned strike on Iran and said talks resume this week, so WTI gave back close to 5% before noon while gold and silver both firmed on the lower inflation read and a softer dollar.
Copper's grinding to a two-week high on its own supply story.
Uranium is the usual weekly print, basically flat.
⛏️ The Motherlode: G Mining Ventures Swallows G2 Goldfields to Build a Tier-One Mine in Guyana
What happened. G Mining Ventures ($GMIN.TSX ( ▲ 6.06% )) closed its plan of arrangement to acquire G2 Goldfields (TSX: GTWO), combining G2's Oko-Ghanie project with GMIN's adjacent Oko West project into a single district-scale operation.
G2 shareholders got 0.212 of a GMIN share plus 0.50 of a share in spun-out G3 Goldfields, which is now applying to list on the CSE. G2 is being delisted from the TSX and OTCQX as of this close.
Why it happened. The two deposits sit on the same mineralized system. Combining them under one operator means one mill, one permit package, and one mine plan instead of two companies tripping over each other's infrastructure and drill programs next door.
What it means for your position. GMIN's CEO is calling this a "large-scale, low-cost, fully permitted and fully financed tier-one gold mining complex," which is a mouthful, but the math is straightforward: shared infrastructure and expanded mill throughput usually beat two standalone deposits on cost per ounce.
Worth noting GMIN is explicit that the historical Oko-Ghanie resource numbers aren't "current" under NI 43-101 yet: a combined estimate and technical report are still coming, so today's close is the start of the re-rate story, not the finish.
⚙️ Drill Bit Tech & Trends: A Battery Recycler Just Moved From the Lab to the Construction Site
Aqua Metals ($AQMS ( ▲ 6.72% )) reported Q2 2026 results and, more importantly, laid out a phased build plan for Headwaters ARC, its planned Midwest battery recycling and critical-minerals campus.
Phase 1 leans on off-the-shelf mechanical equipment to pull copper, aluminum, and high-spec "black mass" out of scrap LFP batteries; Phase 2 layers in the company's chemical-free AquaRefining process to upgrade that black mass into battery-grade lithium carbonate.
What's in it: the company's demonstration plant has now logged over 5,000 operating hours, and it just landed a DOE-funded Idaho National Laboratory partnership testing electrochemical alternatives to solvent extraction for nickel and cobalt.
The trend: LFP battery scrap is expected to grow roughly 15x by 2030 as gigafactories ramp, and unlike nickel/cobalt chemistries, there's no mature domestic recycling pathway built for it yet. Whoever gets a commercial-scale plant running first effectively owns the queue.
The skeptic's footnote: this is still a company with $4.7 million of cash on the balance sheet and a site it hasn't actually secured yet. "Phased" is doing a lot of work in that plan; Phase 1 buys time; it doesn't guarantee Phase 2 gets funded.
So what. If domestic battery recycling capacity is the next supply-chain bottleneck (and there's a real argument it is), the company that gets shovels in the ground first on a Midwest site gets first pick of the offtake queue from six nearby gigafactories.
