Happy Canada Day 🍁

Pour the double-double and prop your feet up; the TSX $XIU.TSX ( ▲ 0.33% ) and TSX-V are dark for Canada Day, so not a single junior is trading up north today.

But COMEX never takes a stat holiday, and while you were lighting the grill, gold ripped about 2% higher to ~$4,090/oz, bouncing off its worst levels since last fall.

Here's the holiday tape, a smart-drilling raise, and a Balrog lurking under a BC swamp.

📊 Commodity Ape Quick Stats

Build-time snapshot. TSX/TSX-V are closed today for Canada Day — metals are live on U.S./global venues, but the index and a couple of spots are last-close reads and flagged as such.

⛏️ The Motherlode: Gold Bounces Off the Mat

What happened. After a June to forget, gold $GLD ( ▲ 2.26% ) came out swinging to open the second half, up roughly 2% to ~$4,090/oz on Wednesday, clawing back off levels it hadn't seen since last autumn.

Silver $SLV ( ▲ 2.95% ) tagged along; the whole precious complex found a bid on a day the Canadian juniors couldn't even play.

Why it happened. Two things lit the fuse: fresh remarks from new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh that had traders second-guessing the "higher-for-longer" script, and a fresh flare-up of U.S.-Iran tension that dusted off the safe-haven bid.

The dollar eased back toward ~101 on the DXY, and gold did what gold does when the greenback blinks.

What it means for your position. Nobody up north could trade it today, so the real tell is Thursday's open; this sets the tone for whether the beaten-up juniors get a relief rally or a fade.

Keep the powder dry: JPMorgan still sees gold pushing ~$5,000 by Q4, but the bears peg July as rangebound (roughly $3,400–$4,240).

One green candle after a brutal month is a bounce, not a bottom — don't confuse a dead-cat's twitch for a new leg up until the tape confirms it.

The hottest trade in exploration isn't a commodity; it's not drilling the dry holes in the first place.

Terra AI just banked a $20M Series A (led by Khosla Ventures, with a strategic cheque from BHP Ventures) to scale a platform that fuses geophysics, geochemistry, and drill data into probabilistic 3D models of the subsurface, spitting out optimized drill plans in minutes instead of quarters.

It rhymes with a claim making the rounds from Stanford's Jef Caers: done right, AI targeting could cut the meters you need to drill to a discovery by up to fivefold. So what?

For a cash-strapped junior, fewer holes per discovery means less burn, fewer bought deals, and less of the serial dilution that turns a 10-bagger discovery into a 2-bagger for the people who were there at the start.

👉 Dig in

🪨 The Tailings: Independence Gold Wakes a Balrog

Speaking of drilling smarter, Independence Gold (TSXV: IGO) just proved the thesis.

At its 3Ts project in central BC, the crew punched a discovery hole into a brand-new target it calls Balrog, a vein with no surface exposure, buried under ~30m of glacial till, fingered entirely by a new district-scale structural model built off last year's airborne survey.

Discovery hole 3TS-26-03 returned 10.62m @ 2.23 g/t gold and 38.14 g/t silver, including a juicy 1.75m @ 6.45 g/t Au and 114.86 g/t Ag.

It sits ~16 km from Artemis Gold's Blackwater mine, in a district that already hosts 20-plus known veins.

Finding fresh gold-silver you literally cannot see from the surface, on the first test of a new model, is exactly the "hit more, drill less" story from above, playing out in real BC mud.

Just mind you don't dig too greedily or too deep.

📈 Stat of the Day: Canada Owns the Rock Game

On the one day the exchanges are shut, it's worth a nod to just how much of the planet's exploration risk-capital runs through Toronto and Vancouver: about 40% of the world's public mining companies list right here in Canada, roughly 1,082 mining names across the TSX and TSX-V combined.

Nearly four in ten.

Happy Canada Day, you beautiful moose-pasture financiers. 🍁

Keep your grades high, your dilution low.
