Happy Saturday! Pour the weekend double-double, because this is the week in five stories, ranked by you.
Thanksgiving Monday ate one edition, so it was a short week: four dispatches, twenty-four stories. These are the five that pulled the most opens, clicks, and web reads.
The week in one line: a hot inflation print knocked the metals down, the drill bits fought back, and BHP reminded everyone that the majors still want copper badly enough to pay in stock.
🥇 #1: A Hot CPI Print Takes a Hammer to Gold and Silver
The story. September CPI landed at 3.7% year over year against a 3.6% consensus, with gasoline doing roughly half the monthly damage. Silver broke below $59 for the first time in about two months and kept sliding into the mid-$50s, gold slipped toward the low $4,100s, and the 10-year yield pushed toward 5.2%.
Why you read it. One-tenth of a percentage point put a December hike back on the table, and the TSX Venture fell more than 2.6% on the day. That is the financing window for every junior on your watchlist getting narrower in real time.
Where it stands now. The metals bounced together the next day as yields rolled over, which is the subject of a later edition. The rate risk didn't go anywhere.
🥈 #2: ATCO Breaks Ground on a $2.9 Billion Bet on Alberta Gas
The story. Canadian Utilities ($CU.TSX ( ▲ 1.03% )), an ATCO company, broke ground on the Yellowhead Pipeline: 235 kilometres from Peers to Fort Saskatchewan, 1.1 billion cubic feet a day of capacity, and fully subscribed before the Alberta Utilities Commission even approved it in July.
Why you read it. Data centres, population growth, and new industrial load are running Alberta's heartland short on pipe, and shippers signed up before the regulatory ink was dry.
So what. A fully contracted utility line with a 2027 in-service date is a steady-cash-flow story, not a re-rate story. The roughly 2,000 construction jobs are the part to watch if you hold oilfield-services names.
🥉 #3: Hycroft Drills the Best Hole in Its 40-Year History
The story. Hycroft Mining ($HYMC ( ▼ 1.44% )) hit 19.6 metres of 30.49 g/t gold and 1,726.72 g/t silver (53.51 g/t AuEq) in hole H26D-6175A at its Vortex zone in Nevada, including 1.7 metres at 347.07 g/t gold and 9,526.36 g/t silver, with visible gold throughout.
Why you read it. A career-best hole at a past-producing site with infrastructure already in the ground is exactly the setup that re-rates a stock fast.
The skeptic's footnote. This is the same Hycroft with a history of serial dilution and a bankruptcy restructuring. It is an exploration result, not a resource, and the company says so itself. Watch the follow-up holes, not the headline.
⛏️ #4: Tower's Blue Sky Zone Hides a 16.70 g/t Needle
The story. Tower Resources (TSXV: TWR) followed up at Rabbit North in BC. Hole RN-25-077 ran 20.3 metres at 3.13 g/t gold (including 8.0 metres at 7.16 g/t) in the upper zone, then 134.0 metres at 0.65 g/t in the lower zone with a 1.5-metre stretch at 16.70 g/t buried inside. Hole RN-25-078 backed it up with 50.3 metres at 1.07 g/t and 114.5 metres at 0.44 g/t.
Why you read it. Two stacked mineralized zones in back-to-back holes is the geometry that starts the "bulk tonnage with a high-grade core" conversation.
The skeptic's footnote. True widths aren't nailed down yet, and Tower has a pre-existing paid IR agreement with Simone Capital on the books. Real rock, but the hype machine is plugged in next to the drill rig.
🔌 #5: BHP Pays $658 Million in Stock to Walk Back Into San Manuel
The story. Faraday Copper ($CPPKF ( ▼ 1.52% )) closed its purchase of BHP's ($BHP ( ▲ 0.47% )) old San Manuel project in Arizona, bolting it onto Copper Creek to form the roughly 35,000-acre Redhawk Copper Complex. BHP took about 138 million new shares worth roughly $658 million, landing it about 32% of Faraday, two board seats, and a right of first refusal on certain San Manuel royalty financings.
Why you read it. A major choosing to own a third of the junior holding its old mine, rather than taking cash, is about the loudest copper-demand signal a junior can get.
So what. Faraday has 24,000 metres of drilling ahead and a resource estimate pegged for around mid-2027. It also has one shareholder holding a third of the register, so watch how that right of first refusal shapes future financings. (It's the newest edition on this list, so it had the least time to rack up reads and still made the cut.)
